Exploring Stirling's Heritage Since 1878
A Scottish heritage charity for people interested in archaeology, the natural heritage, and stories of the Stirling district.
Summer Programme 2026 Now Available — field visits, excursions and excavations from April to September
Welcome to the Society
Founded in the autumn of 1878 by Alexander Croall and a small group of naturalists, historians, and antiquarians, the Stirling Field & Archaeological Society has spent nearly 150 years studying, recording, and celebrating the heritage of the Stirling district.
Today we are a growing community of members — mostly amateur — who share a passion for understanding the past. We organise a programme of winter lectures, summer field visits, and excavations, and will be creating a digital archive of photographs, maps, field notebooks, and artefacts stretching back to our Victorian origins.
Whether you are a lifelong local, a student of history, or simply curious about what lies beneath the landscape, you are very welcome here.
